Ocean Response to Hurricane Wilma: * Wilma intensified around Oct/19/12GMT as it headed west/northwestward over warmer water (higher SSH - Sea Surface Height) in the Cayman Sea deeper region, from cooler shelf/slope region to the east/southeast (where the storm was on Oct/18 - not shown); * Wilma leaves a trail of cooler water (SST - Sea Surface Temperature) especially to its right; * The OHC (Ocean Heat Content) is continually modified by the storm, most significantly under and behind the storm where the OHC is decreased; * Wilma also leaves a trail of upwelling (blue) and downwelling (red) cells, as high as +-80 m/day; * The storm is strong enough to temporarily displace (to the east) the Loop Current. * We also found that the ocean warmed around the Loop Current during hurricane Wilma - click "Publications" on left.
